Bioalpha aims to produce 2,000 tons of herbs from herbal park

-

DUNGUN: Health supplement and beauty products manufacturer, Bioalpha Holdings Bhd (Bioalpha), targets to produce 2,000 tonnes of herbs from its new Pasir Raja Herbal Park, a Herbal Integrated Cluster Development (HICD) project, located here, by 2020.

Managing Director William Hon said the target could be achieved after seeing high market demand for herbs in the health and beauty sector.

He said the 406-hectare (ha) Pasir Raja Herbal Park is an addition to the company’s existing 528ha park in Desaru Johor, as a result of high demand for herbs such as Tongkat Ali, Kacip Fatimah and others.

“For the Pasir Raja park, we hope to produce 300 tonnes of herbs by the end of 2018 from the current 101.2ha under cultivation.

“We expect to meet the 2,000 tonnes production target by 2020 once the remainder of the land is utilised,” he told reporters after the official launch of the herbal park here today.

Hon said the company currently produces around 300 health and beauty products, and 50 per cent of its revenue are from local sales followed by Indonesia (25 per cent), China (20 per cent) and others (five per cent).

“We hope to improve our revenue with the establishment of the Pasir Raja herbal park as the main ingredients for the products will be grown on our own plantations, which will lower our costs,” he added. Bernama
