KIULU: Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau has received overwhelming support from the people of Kiulu town to defend his and UPKO’s decision to leave the Barisan Nasional (BN) after the 14th general election (GE14) and team up with Warisan and Pakatan Harapan to form the new Sabah government.

In an event organised by the youth of Kiulu, about 200 Kiulu residents turned up at Kiulu town as early as 9.30am yesterday to show solid support and solidarity for Madius as well as the newly formed Warisan-PH-UPKO government.

The Youth leader and organising person for the event, George Teo, mentioned that they decided to organise the event not only to support Madius, but also to back the newly formed government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal.

“The people of Kiulu feel proud and indebted to Madius for what he has done so far. They also recognise Madius as their local hero because he himself was born and grew up in Kiulu,” added Teo, a community leader and businessman based in Kiulu.

Recently, Madius had been accused of frog-hopping by some opposition supporters for leaving BN to team up with Warisan and PH. Last week, a group of people led by Gabungan Sabah also demanded him to resign form his Tuaran MP post.

Madius, also the acting president of UPKO, has come out and explained to the public that UPKO’s decision to team up with Shafie was based on their supreme council’s consensus decision and not him alone.

He also defended their decision because majority of rakyat had rejected BN after the GE14, and the people of Sabah definitely would have more benefit if Sabah is not an opposition government.

Madius also maintained that UPKO must listen and accept the wishes of the rakyat as they wanted a change based of the 6040 popular votes in GE14 results, and the decision to team up with Shafie is a right one to uphold the wishes of the rakyat.

At the GE14, Madius won the Tuaran parliamentary seat by obtaining 22,494 votes and with a majority of 7,624 votes.
