Easier for S’wak govt to voice out needs, concerns at federal level now – Minos

-

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Sarawak government is now in a better position to voice out the state's needs and concerns at the federal level after the forming of the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, said Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos.

He said that under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Sarawak is now free to shape and determine the fate and future of the state and its people.

"All this time we were controlled by the Barisan Nasional (BN)," said Minos in his opening speech at the MPKS Sarawak Day celebration at the MPKS garden yesterday.

Touching on July 22, Minos said it is a historic day for Sarawak as it marks the day when the state gained independence from the British colonial rule.

"We also take this day to remember those who fought for our independence from the British such as Rosli Dhoby and Rentap," he added.

He said Sarawak later formed the Malaysian Federation, enabling the state to develop itself and the nation with its own effort and energy.

Also speaking was Kota Samarahan Resident Ibrahim Lumpu, who congratulated the organisers of the event.

He lauded the council for taking the initiative to hold the ‘Lestari Run' and aerobathon activities.

The run requires the participants to collect rubbish along the designated route, which also instils the spirit of ‘gotongroyong'.
