MIRI: The Guan Yin Temple at Jalan Tudan Utama here is finally ready to open after nearly 10 years of construction.

The opening ceremony of the temple will be held on July 31 from 10am onwards in conjunction with Guan Yin Goddess' birthday anniversary.

According to a press release by the temple's management, representatives of temples from around Sarawak, associations and individuals are expected to witness the grand opening ceremony which will be graced by Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

The programme will include dragon and lion dance performances as well as 24seasons drums performances to create a merry ambiance at the special occasion.

Construction of the temple commenced in November, 2009 but the project met with various challenges, such as insufficient fund.

Even so, the project eventually progressed smoothly after donations from individuals, companies and associations poured in to support the project.

Prior to the opening ceremony, the statues of deities of Guan Yin Goddess, Tu Di Gong (or tutelary deity of a locality), the Living Buddha Ji Gong and Monkey God, among others, were blessed with a special prayer ceremony.

Meanwhile, a special welcoming dinner will be held on July 30 at Boulevard Restaurant to express gratitude to those who have been very supportive towards the progress of the temple.

A special vegetarian menu will be served during the dinner.
