Much room for progress in bilateral trade with China – Deputy Consul-General
KUCHING: There is still huge room for progress in bilateral trade between China and Malaysia, said China's Deputy Consul-General in Kuching Zhang Yang.
He pointed out that this is because China has taken a more liberal and proactive approach in economic development policies.
As such, he called upon the Chinese community from outside China to grab this opportunity to enjoy mutual benefits.
He made these remarks during the Parents' Day dinner organised by Kuching Foochow Association (KFA) at Imperial Hotel here last Sunday night.
The dinner was also held in conjunction with 'The Voice of Kuching 6.0' singing competition finale, the installation ceremonies of KFA 51st committee, 11th youth committee, 10th women committee and 6th senior committee.
Zhang observed that Chinese community associations will have to embrace new technology in facing various challenges if they want to continue staying relevant.
He said the lifestyle of many individuals had changed due to the advancement of information and communication technology (ICT).
As such, he opined that young members of KFA should play a part in applying the latest technology to run the association.
Zhang, who has been serving the Chinese Consulate here for over a year, said he was pleased to note that the Chinese community in the city had promoted the Chinese cultures very well.
He said respecting the elderly and caring for parents were among the Chinese traditions that had been practised by the community for ages.
