MyCEB targets RM600 mln revenue from 80 programmes this year

-

JOHOR BAHRU: The Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) aims to earn RM600 million in revenue from the 80 programmes it is organising this year.

Chief executive officer Datuk Zulkefli Sharif said since the beginning of this year, MyCEB has held 70 programmes, generating revenue of RM385 million.

The amount is less than the RM954 million it earned through 151 programmes last year, he said.

“This is the target we have set for our Key Performance Indicator (KPI) this year, and we expect to achieve more than that.

“This year, we see several challenges including competition from neighbouring countries who are actively wooing tourists,” he told reporters after attending the MyCEP Johor Roadshow MyCEB Johor 2018 yesterday.

Zulkefli said this year, MyCEB has attracted 156,502 international delegates compared to 381,342 in the same period last year.

This year’s programmes include the World Urban Forum (WUF), World Congress of Chefs (WACS), World Cancer Congress 2018, IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC), Annual Solid Waste and General Assembly of the International Solid Waste As- sociation (ISWA 2018), and Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) Asia 2018.

He said today’s event is the sixth this year after previous events in Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

“Our aim in coming to Johor is to explore the state’s potential and new attractions to be included in our Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) calendar.

“Today alone we have been able to attract 180 agencies including from the government, private companies and tourism industry players, and we hope to collaborate with them to help us achieve our target this year,” he said. — Bernama
