More schools joining Law Olympiad competition

KOTA KINABALU: The EduQuest and HELP University HELP Law Olympiad competition tests students on logical deduction and general knowledge as well as promotes team spirit.

HELP University Department of Law senior lecturer Mark Goh said the competition, through its interactive games, would create an interest for law in participating students.

“Most students that join this competition don’t really know what they want to pursue once they finish school. This is a way to introduce them to what law is. Through the games and activities, they are exposed to different areas in law,” said Mark.

The competition is primarily divided into four games, namely ‘Visitors from Outer Space,’ ‘Whodunnit,’ trivia quiz and ‘What’s Your Verdict,’ which test students on their critical thinking skills and general knowledge.

Mark said students’ performance varied, but they would generally show good reasoning and an ability to think out of the box.

A total of 150 students aged between 16 and 19 participated in this year’s competition, constituting 30 teams from 10 schools.

HELP University Customer Marketing Department assistant manager CK Wong said the number showed an increase, compared to last year.

“We have more schools joining this year compared to last year, and we are hopeful there will be more next year. It usually increases every year, and we’ve experienced more participation, particularly in the last two years,” he said.
