Local bands to tour inland districts to promote unity

-

KOTA KINABALU: Five local independent bands will be touring Sabah’s interior districts next month to share and expose their indie music to rural folks.

The three-day Inland Tour: Voice of Unity will see the groups stopping at Tambunan, Tenom, and Keningau districts beginning Aug 3.

They are Spinning Toxic, Boil, Zirconia, Departure and No Preservatives.

They will be playing at Luton Hill View on Aug 3 in Tambunan, Tenom; Coffee Valley on Aug 4 in Tenom, and Roundabout Music Cafe on Aug 5 in Keningau.

The Inland Tour is aimed at promoting unity and friendship among joining bands as well as providing platform for rural indie bands to expand network.

Tour organising commitee chairman Adie Adrian Boniface of Spinning Toxic says such event is the bands’ own initiative to bring local alternative rock and metal music to people in the interior.

“There are actually many talented bands in the interior districts and they play their own music. They just lack of platform to showcase their talent.

“We hope our presence (at Tambunan, Keningau, and Tenom) will help push talented bands to go out of their comfort zone and perform their materials,” says the 40-year-old vocalist.

During the tour, indie bands from the interior districts will also be performing as the opening acts at respective venue. They are Chockescream (Tambunan), Bolus Ru Bulur (Tenom), Oh Yeah (Tenom), Tangkapas (Keningau), and Buzzing Joker (Keningau).

Spinning Toxic vocalist Arnold Carlito Faurillo, 29, says the Inland Tour event will be an interesting event as it allows band members to better understand indie music demand in district they are touring.

“At the moment, we are not sure what the feedback will be like and it is very exciting to find out. It will be a learning experience for us too.

“What’s important is for us to share our (music) materials and hopefully the tour will give a positive impact to other indie bands to follow in the step,” he says.

No Preservatives basist Ronald R.J, 31, believes the Inland Tour will further spark interest among new indie bands, particularly in the interior, to show their talents.

“It will be a good time for them to build network and perhaps form a collaboration with other bands so they do similar tour within or outside their district,” he says.
