STA calls on previous participants to attend tennis invitational
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Tennis Association (STA) is banking on support from previous participants at the 11th Sabah Team Tennis Invitational Tournament, which is scheduled to be held here on October 5 to 7 this year.
STA president Johnson Koh said the tournament could also be graced by the federal Youth and Sports Minister, Syed Saddiq Syed Rahman.
“I have personally invited the minister to come visit our event so he can see all the foreign participants that come to take part.
“Players from Australia, USA, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, India, Pakistan and Uzbekistan have individual players taking part over the tournament’s nine-year history.
“We hope that the teams that have participated in the last 10 years will continue to participate,” he said.
Meanwhile, Koh apologised to all participants who have made prior arrangements on the tournament’s earlier date of September 16.
“The earlier date that coincides with Malaysia Day clashes with the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Perak, therefore we had to change the date to October 5-7.
“This new date coincides with the birthday celebrations of the Sabah Head-of-State and I think the switch is timely.
“But to all the participants who made arrangements to arrive here on the earlier date, I have to say sorry,” Koh said.
For the record, STA takes pride in doing its part for sports tourism. They also noted that they were grateful for the continued support from the Sabah Youth and Sports Ministry, Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry and also the Chief Minister’s Department.
