11,999 employers registered with Socso Sandakan
SANDAKAN: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) has been increasing the coverage of social security for all employees by implementing Act 800, Employment Insurance System Act 2017 and compensating workers who have lost their jobs.
According to its board member, Alan Khoo Choom Kwong, from January 1 until July 30, this year, a total of 123 employees were compensated by Sosco in Sandakan, involving a total of RM73,800 paid to the employees who had lost their jobs.
Khoo said this when launching a Sosco programme at Sandakan Hotel here yesterday.
The programme aims to increase the awareness of employers here on the importance of registering their employees with Sosco, and to report any accident at work places or on the way to and from the work place.
He said that from January until June this year, a total of 11,999 employers were registered with Socso Sandakan with 8,274 active employers, while 13 were issued with compound for failing to register their premises (Section 4 of Employees' Social Security Act 1969 (ESSA), failing to register employees (Section 5 of ESSA), and failing to report accident (Regulation 71 of Employees' Social Security (General) Regulations 1971).
“Socso Sandakan has paid a total of RM1.4 million of interest to all cases including medical and compensation payment. A total of 251 cases recorded involved interest for permanent disability, temporary disability, and more,” he added.
Khoo said he hoped that the attendees would be able to gain knowledge on the process and procedures involved to claim interest for the employees in case of accident of death on their employees.
A total of 60 employers and their representatives in Sandakan attended the programme. Also present was the newly elected SocsoSandakan manager Mariam Hassan.
