Call to speed up appointment of Labuan village heads
LABUAN: Labuan Umno senator Datuk Bashir Alias has urged the Ministry of Federal Territory to speed up the appointment of village chiefs for the sake of villagers.
He said all the 27 villages were without officially Pakatan Harapan government-appointed chiefs, leaving the villages without ‘official heads'.
“Villagers' issues remain unattended with the absence of official village heads. This gives hardship to the villagers,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.
He said if there was a need for the reappointment of the existing 27 village heads or new appointment, it must be done immediately as the issue had dragged on since the last two months.
Meanwhile Bashir, who is the Labuan Umno divisional chief, said the party had a new leadership line-up with some of them being new faces.
Umno vice chief Datuk Khalid Ghani as deputy chief, Sahari Tarji (vice chief), Mohd Dzulfaizal Ab Manan (secretary), former Labuan member of parliament Datuk Yussof Mahal remains as information chief, Labuan Umno Youth chief Datuk Mohd Rafi Alli Hassan as treasurer.
The newly-elected committee members are Dr Harun Pudin, Alias Hussin, Basran Yunus, Sanih Yussof, Alies Abd Manan and Noor Erny Jamil (women).
Saifful Pungot was elected as new Labuan Umno chief and Normiyati Jmat as Puteri chief.
“Umno will remain relevant to the people in Labuan and we will continue to be a calibre political party to champion the people's issue,” Bashir said.
