Tunku Imran urges athletes to pass doping test in the country
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) President Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja’afar yesterday urged the athletes to pass a doping test in the country before they compete for the upcoming 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
He said that all athletes should be tested because we don’t want embarrassment having positive result at the Games.
“Yes, they must do the test and the result must be known before they go for competitions.
“May be they won’t do silly things such as taking slimming and herbal products. Whatever it is, they should be careful in whatever they do.
“Even sometimes the skin cream can get in the body system so I think they must understand that the world is getting strict with doping issues and it is not good for any country to go through this experience,” he told Bernama after appearing as a guest with Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong in ‘Bernama Today’ over Bernama News Channel at Wisma Bernama yesterday. In April, Gold Coast Commonwealth Games weightlifting bronze medalist Mohamad Fazrul Azrie Mohdad was found positive for Stanozolol during a pre-games test.
In the 2017 SEA Games, national diver Wendy Ng Yan Yee was stripped of her gold medals after she was confirmed using sibutramine, a banned substance.
At the 2014 Asian Games, wushu gold medalist Tai Cheau Xuen had her medal withdrawn after she was found positive for using sibutramine.
