Smart City roundtable, Alibaba cross-border conference key highlights at SDEC 2018
KUALA LUMPUR: Two of the key highlights at the upcoming Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention 2018 (SDEC 2018) are the National Smart City Mayor roundtable discussion and the Alibaba-Taobao University Cross-Border Conference.
SDEC 2018, the largest smart city event in Asia, will be held at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre here from Sept 13-15, and is part of the Selangor International Business Summit 2018.
In a statement yesterday, event co-organiser, the Selangor Information Technology and ECommerce Council (Sitec) said the mayor roundtable would explore the topics of traffic and mobility, communications and connectivity, and smart-waste management
“The invitation-only discussion will be attended by mayors and leaders of local councils in Malaysia,” it said.
Meanwhile, Alibaba-Taobao University, the education arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, will bring its first unique cross-border conference to the Klang Valley.
“Conducted in Mandarin, it will explore topics on penetrating the China market, fulfillment and logistics, and enhancing small and medium entreprises work productivity,” Sitec said.
The SDEC 2018 will feature exhibitors such as Huawei, Microsoft, Axiata, and carefully curated sub-events such as the Smart City forum and a startup forum.
Attendees can also experience the Selangor International Pitch, an on-stage international pitching competition by top startups in ASEAN and a live demonstration by the top ten finalists of the Selangor Accelerator Programme 2018, where the top five will proceed to pitch at the SIP.
“A business-matching session will also be accessible to all registered delegates, opening opportunities to partner and network with local and international investors, organisations, companies and governments.
“Top international city leaders will converge to explore strategic approaches for building smart cities at the city discussion sessions, with topics on artificial intelligence, financial technology, blockchain, machine learning, and Industrial Revolution 4.0,” it added.
Other event co-organisers are Menteri Besar Incorporated Selangor, Smart Selangor Delivery Unit, and Invest Selangor Bhd.
