Korean tourists hurt in parasailing 'mishap'
KOTA KINABALU: Several Korean tourists who were involved in a water sport activity were injured in an apparent mishap during heavy rain yesterday.
The tourists were said to be taking part in a boating and parasailing activity with a tour boat operator around 11am when the weather suddenly turned bad about an hour later.
The boat was swept ashore at the Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort beach, while two persons who were parasailing got their parachutes stuck on a tree.
It was unclear if both of them were tourists or one was a guide.
According to a statement from Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort (Star), staff immediately went to assist the victims.
“They were given early treatment before we contacted the authority,” said Star director of communications Claudina Wong.
“At about 11.30am today (Aug 3), a small boat operated by a third party tour agency and carrying several passengers washed up next to our resort’s sunset bar.
“Our colleagues immediately rushed to help while waiting for emergency assistance,” she said, adding that the tourists were not their guests.
Meanwhile, city police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said police were still investigating the incident.
Habibi however said no untoward incident was reported and reminded the community including tourists to take precautions on any water activities during bad weather.
