First division to support Chin for LDP presidency
KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Moyog division has thrown its support behind acting president cum deputy president Datuk Chin Su Phin to contest for the presidency in the coming party election in October this year.
Moyog is the first division to declare its stand for the potential presidential nominee of the party.
Chin, who is also the chairman of Api-Api division, has assumed the role of the acting president since Datuk Seri Panglima Teo Chee Kang resigned as party president on July 29.
The Moyog division made the resolution to fully support Chin for the top leadership post in its delegates conference recently. The divisional conference was graced by LDP vice president cum Likas division chairman Datuk Chin Shu Ying.
Nomination for the party’s central leadership posts will be open from August 15 to September 15.
All positions in the top echelon, including the president, deputy president, five vice presidents, 20 Supreme Council members, as well as in the Central Youth Movement and Central Women Movement are open for contest.
Chin is expected to garner the majority support of the divisions to contest for the number one post in LDP in the coming election this October.
On another note, the Moyog division has also held an election in conjunction with the conference.
Incumbent division chairman Datuk Lim Ming Hoo has decided not to seek for another term and his position was succeeded by Alex Chee, who was formerly the deputy chairman.
Chee in his speech thanked Teo for giving Moyog division great support and encouragement during the latter’s tenure as president.
LDP has left the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition after the 14th General Election following the party’s defeat in all the four state and one parliamentary seats in Sabah. The new elected leadership will have to shoulder the responsibility of charting the direction of the now opposition party.
