11,200 senior citizens first recipients of Takaful scheme

-

BATU PAHAT: A total of 11,200 senior citizens in the state became the first batch to receive the Johor Senior Citizen Takaful (TWENJ) scheme benefit amounting to RM1,000 each.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian said the scheme was among the 10 Pakatan Harapan (PH) 100-day manifesto offerings after successfully forming the government in the state following the victory in the last general election.

“Despite the time constraint, we prioritise the first phase (11,200 participants) and at the top of the list are those from the MyKasih programme, Welfare Department (JKM) besides those with low income (B40).

“At the same time we will figure out how to increase the number (of recipients)... the applications can be made by filling out the forms through the elected representatives in every state constituency or a special representative appointed in an area not won by PH,” he said.

He was speaking at a press conference after officiating the launch of the TWENJ scheme and handing over financial contributions to 33 state government-aided religious schools in Parit Yaani yesterday.

The RM1,000 given under the scheme is a death benefit (‘khairat kematian’ for Muslims) for managing burial expenses by the beneficiaries of the participants regardless of religion, race or political leanings.
