SEDC’s cattle farm shines at agro-show in Western Australia
KUCHING: Rosewood Pty Ltd, the subsidiary company of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) that runs a cattle farm in Australia, won several awards in this year’s Kununurra Agricultural Show held at Kimberley, Western Australia recently.
According to SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Aziz Husain, who is also Rosewood board of directors chairman, seven out of its 10 entries in the competition had won first placing.
“The organisers had also awarded the overall grand champion title to Rosewood Station in the ‘Pen of 3 Steers 350kg and Above’ category – the first of its kind to be won by our cattle farm,” he said in a statement.
The seven classes of cattle stock won by Rosewood Station were the ‘Brahman Bull 12 months and Under’, ‘Brahman Bull 12 to 24 months’, ‘Export – Pen of 3 Steers to 280kg for South East Asia’, ‘Export – Pen of 3 steers 280kg to 350kg for Southeast Asia’, ‘Export – Pen of 3 steers 350kg and Above’, Export – Pen of 3 Export Heifers’, and ‘Pen of 3 Steers 350kg and Above’.
According to Abdul Aziz, the recognition given for the quality of the livestock bred and managed by the SEDC’s subsidiary company, augurs well in its livestock and farming business development’s aspiration.
“There is good potential in the livestock and farming sector, especially in the expansion of markets for SEDC to explore including in Malaysia, which is currently one of the top importers of beef in the Asian region.”
The Kununurra Agricultural Show is organised annually by the Kununurra Show Society, which was established in Western Australia in 1973. The event showcases products and services produced and sold from businesses within the community.
Meanwhile, Rosewood Pty Ltd vice-president John Lee paid a courtesy visit on Abdul Aziz at Menara SEDC in Kuching Isthmus recently.
During the visit, Abdul Aziz was briefed on the livestock judging which was undertaken by Kevin Yost of Liberty Charolais, Toodyay – known as one of the cattle experts in Western Australia.
During the announcement of winners, Yost complimented the management of Rosewood Station for the quality standards and the presentation of livestock, which had also received good comments from the panel of judges.
The award presentation was performed by Kununurra Show Society president Catherine Ryan, witnessed by Rosewood Station general manager Mark Cook and station manager Doug Struber.
