More Chinese companies to invest in Sabah, says Consul General

KOTA KINABALU: More practical cooperatio­n will be realized between Sabah and China with the support from the new state government led by Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal and efforts by the Chinese community and non-government­al organizati­ons (NGOs).

Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Liang Caide believed that the number of Chinese tourists to Sabah would continue to grow in tandem with closer exchanges between both places.

Furthermor­e, Liang said more Chinese companies would seek investment and business opportunit­ies in Sabah, thereby pushing the bilateral cooperatio­n to new heights.

He said this at the 42nd anniversar­y celebratio­n cum 22nd installati­on ceremony of the executive committee, culture and education bureau, youth committee and women committee of the United Sabah Chinese Communitie­s Associatio­n of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) here on Wednesday.

The event was graced by Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environmen­t Christina Liew, who represente­d the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal.

As an important node along the maritime silk road, Liang said the collaborat­ion between Sabah and China had huge potentials in view of our logistic advantages and rich natural resources.

Meanwhile, he said the Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would visit China in a few days.

“I believe his visit will propel the relations between Malaysia and China to greater heights and open up a new chapter of bilateral cooperatio­n and at the same time, create new opportunit­ies for potential collaborat­ion between China and Sabah.”

On another note, Liang believed that USCCAKK president Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen would continue to contribute towards enhancing the ties between Sabah and China.
