Sabah women futsal squad drop to 4th

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah women’s squad concluded Week Six of the National Futsal League with a win and a defeat over the weekend.

Played at the Panasonic Sports Complex in Shah Alam, the outcome of the matches saw Sabah drop out of the top three in the country’s premier women’s futsal tournament.

Sabah, who were now at fourth following the weekend matches, put up a strong fight before losing 2-5 to Selangor United MPSJ in the first game.

Masturah Majid and Dadree Rofinus scored for the state squad but MPSJ showed why they were among the hot favourites by pulling off a comfortabl­e win.

In the second game, the Rosmadih Wasli-coached state squad made amends by beating Borneo archrivals Sarawak 30.

Usliza Osman and Masturah gave Sabah a two-goal lead in the first half before Masturah netted again in the second half to cement the victory.

The three points won out of the maximum six points saw Sabah drop one rung to fourth on 21 points in the eight-team league.

Felda lead on 31 points, followed by MPSJ on 27 while Perak sit in third place with 22 points.

Meanwhile, the final week of the league will take place on August 25 and 26, where Sabah will first take on Perak before playing against KL Imigresen FC. Victories in these games will move Sabah back into the top three.

In the first round meetings, Sabah registered a 3-3 draw against Perak and a 4-1 win over KL Imigresen FC.
