Ranau’s stall, markets to be refurbished

-

THE State Government will be looking into refurbishing the stalls and markets in Ranau in its bid to create a more conducive environment for the people in the district.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Jaujan Sambakong said such facility is needed by the people of Ranau as many them rely on their agriculture produce to earn a living, and as such, it is vital for them to have a proper facility where they can conduct their business.

“We can see various types of vegetables being sold in this district. Some of the vegetables are expensive as the demand is very high … Ranau is now a major producer of vegetables,” Jaujan told reporters when met at the State Assembly sitting yesterday, adding that Kundasang is one of the other areas that the State Government should focus on.

The Local Government and Housing Minister also said that the accommodation services in Ranau, such as homestay, must also be revamped.

Citing Kundasang as one of the areas in Ranau that has a natural landscape, Jaujan, however, stressed that housing in Kundasang has to be arranged well even though there are no pressing issues, such as squatters problems there.

Jaujan said he would be discussing the matter further with Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Christina Liew, while echoing Christina's call to revamp the facilities at Poring Hot Springs, Ranau.
