KPJ urged to attract more medical tourists

KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau is optimistic that the health industry, especially private hospitals through their health tourism services can indirectly assist in enhancing bilateral relations with countries whose citizens come to Sabah for its health services.

Madius stated after receiving a courtesy call from senior officers of KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital led by delegation from the KPJ Sabah led by its CEO, Miranda Harumal @ Nur Syahirah Abdullah, yesterday.

Madius, who is also UPKO acting president and Tuaran member of parliament, took a special interest on the Mobile Wakaf Clinic operated by KPJ Sabah which is believed to the first in Sabah by a private hospital. He suggested to the KPJ officers to run this program in collaboration with his service centre in Tuaran.

Among other things, Madius also said: “KPJ is premier hospital in Sabah with very fine facilities and I think that’s the reason why they are able to attract medical tourists from China and other parts of Asia.

"I think more need to be done to promote their services so that more medical tourists from these countries will become KPJ’s repeat clients," he said.

Another program under KPJ Sabah’s proposal is Corporate Wellness or in short CoWell. This program is designed for the corporate sector where interactive health talks and free health screening will be conducted.

Madius urged those in the corporate and public sectors to take advantage of these programs.
