KOTA KINABALU: Some 196 students vying for some exposure on higher learning public institutions (IPTAs) took part in the annual Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) ‘a step towards higher learning institution (SEMEGA)’ program at the campus here yesterday.

The Form 6 program participants came from 20 schools located at 15 districts, Beaufort, Keningau, Kinabatangan, Kota Belud, Kota Marudu, Kuala Penyu, Kudat, Kunak, Membakut, Papar, Penampang, Menumbok, Beluran and Kota Kinabalu.

“This program has successfully given more or less some knowledge to the participants regarding the university’s atmosphere,” said UMS deputy vice chancellor (student affairs and alumni) Professor Dr Ismail Ali, whose speech was delivered by Student Affair and Alumni Department head Jusman Naili, at the program’s closing ceremony here yesterday.

“The program has indirectly exposed and nurtured excellence in school students in terms of academic, attitude and discipline. The program also attracts students to pursue higher education,” he added.

The three-day and two-night SEMEGA was organized by the university’s Academic and Career Exco Student Representative Council Session 2017/2018 as a UMS community service program for local communities, especially school students in Sabah.

The program, organized for the 15th time, was aimed to inculcate motivation and leadership and encourage students to enrol in higher learning institutions.
