200 villagers receive medical attention
KOTA KINABALU: Over 200 villagers benefited from a health and medical camp jointly organized by the State Health Department, Sabah Agape, Sabah Medical Association and Che Sui Chor Moral Uplifting Society at Kg Lumampau, Kg Ulu Bole and Kg Long Pasia in Sipitang, recently.
Programme coordinator Ooi Kong Eow said the camp involved 29 medical and dental staff, including a family physician, specialists, dentist, dental nurses, medical officers, pharmacists and nurses.
He said the medical practitioners conducted health screening and treatment, oral screening and dental extraction, as well as talk on health and personal hands hygiene during the event.
“In total, we have provided medical treatment to 209 persons, including 111 children.
“Some 125 persons, comprising 86 adults and 39 children, have also undergone dental extraction,” he said.
Ooi said the major sicknesses found among the villagers were common flu, skin problems and hypertension.
He added that 14 cases had been referred to the nearest health clinic, Klinik Kesihatan Meligan, while a patient diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) was referred to Hospital Sipitang.
The patient with DVT was provided with transportation and cash assistance to the hospital.
Ooi also thanked Che Sui Khor Moral Uplifting Society for sponsoring all medicines and giving 170 families with necessity items and children with toothbrushes and tooth pastes during the health and medical camp.
