SUCCC wants its reps in local authorities
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC) has written to the Local Government and Housing Ministry to consider appointing individuals recommended by the respective Chinese chambers of commerce as councilors in local authorities.
SUCCC president Tan Sri Andrew Liew Sui Fatt hoped that the Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Jaujan Sambakong would consider the association's request.
Liew personally handed the recommended names to the permanent secretary of the ministry, Datuk Ginun Yangus here recently.
Earlier, SUCCC secretary general Datuk Jimmy Tham has requested the member chambers to submit their recommended individuals as councilors by August 17.
Liew said the Chinese chambers' representatives would be able to contribute to the local authorities with their insight on the community and development of the districts.
He added that the appointed councilors could also provide input and suggestions from the Chinese community and businesses to assist the local authorities in bringing progress and development to the community.
He said the Chinese chambers' presidents or representatives appointed by the previous administration as councilors had shown their commitment in implementing development initiatives.
Meanwhile, Ginun said he would forward SUCCC's request to Jaujan for consideration.
