Police rescue abducted man with arrest of nine suspects

JOHOR BAHRU: Police have rescued an abducted man with the arrest of nine men in front of a restaurant in Bandar Selesa Jaya, Skudai, here early yesterday.

Johor CID chief SAC Kamaluddin Kassim said the arrest was made after police acted on a report made by the victim’s family at 9 pm yesterday on the alleged incident in front of a restaurant in Bukit Indah, here.

“All the suspects, aged 20 and 60, were arrested in front of the restaurant in Bandar Selesa Jaya at about 1.50 am.

“Before the arrest, one of the suspects contacted the victim’s wife by telephone to meet in front of the restaurant and they brought the victim there in a car,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said police managed to rescue the victim, but he suffered injuries on several parts of the body, believed to have been beaten while being held and sent to the hospital for treatment.

cALLme e-hailing app to be introduced at KLIA Sept – Loke

PUTRAJAYA: The cALLme applicatio­n service, an e-hailing platform, will be introduced to airport taxi drivers by next month to facilitate taxi drivers in getting customers, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

He said the cALLme applicatio­n would be initiated at the Kuala Lumpur Internatio­nal Airport as the first phase before being extended to city taxis nationwide.

”This technology applicatio­n will be one of the choices for today’s consumers and I am confident this modern platform will provide a good added value to the taxi system in the country,” he said.

Loke was speaking to the media after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understand­ing (MoU) between the Malaysian Taxi, Limousine and Rental Car Drivers and Operators Associatio­n (Petekma) and Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Bhd (Angkasa) to manage the cALLme applicatio­n service yesterday.
