KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah State Archives Department has launched the ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku, Sabah Tanah Airku’ special exhibition, an initiative that seeks to spread awareness on the history of Sabah’s independence.

The exhibition was launched by Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony at Imago Shopping Mall on Friday and it will be held until August 31.

“The objective of the exhibition is to provide information to the public regarding the scenes of Sabah’s independence and the figures involved in the struggles as well as to instill awareness among the public, so that they can appreciate the historical records found in Sabah,” State Archives Department director Mohd Said Hinayat said.

The historical exhibition was one of the programmes that was conducted in conjunction with the 2018 State-level National Day Celebration, held from 10am to 10pm and admission is free.

The exhibition features booths from all twelve of the state-level ministries, such as the Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry, the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry, the Ministry of Trade and Industries to name a few.

The records exhibited consist of various information regarding the events, buildings, personalities, places and plenty more.

“These records are presented in the forms of photographs, documentations, audio visuals among others.

“A lot of the younger generations may not be aware of the events that took place during that particular historical time, and it would be a loss for them to remain so,” Said added.

Various activities will be held during the duration of the exhibition such as the screening of the documentary film entitled ‘The Birth of Malaysia’, a quiz competition offering attractive prizes and many more.

During the launching, Peter, on behalf of the State Archives Department, had also received several contributed materials from Sabah history enthusiasts and researchers Dr Benedict Topin, Dr Saimin Ginsari, Zainnal Ajamain and Joanna Datuk Kitingan.
