Two single mothers jailed for CBT

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Two single mothers were found guilty by the Sessions Court yesterday of criminal breach of trust and assisting in the concealment of stolen money, three years ago.

Judge Syed Faisal Syed Amir meted out six years’ jail to former bank officer G. Vani, 44, and five years’ jail to self-employed Ristiyanti Mohd Isa, 41, after finding that the defence had failed to raise a reasonable doubt at the end of the defence case.

In sentencing Syed Faisal said the court found that the evidence given by both accused during the proceedings conducted simultaneously, to be mere denial.

Vani, who was charged with two counts of criminal breach of trust involving two unauthorised withdrawals of RM40,600 and RM69,000 was also fined RM20,000, in default one year’s jail for the first charge and another RM15,000, in default one year’s jail for the second charge.

The court ordered Vani to serve her prison sentence concurrently starting from yesterday.

Ristiyanti, who was charged with voluntary concealing the stolen money amounting RM69,000 was also fined RM20,000, in default one year’s jail.
