Amanah Youth vice-chief banned from entering Sarawak — Immigration

-

KUCHING: Parti Amanah Negara Youth vice-chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin is being banned from entering Sarawak.

Immigration Department Sarawak director Ken Leben confirmed this when contacted yesterday.

“It is true – the subject (Shazni) was not permitted to land (refused entry at Sibu Airport). His name is still in Sarawak’s suspected list (blacklisted). Any (request to) uplift (the ban, he) could write to the state authority,” Ken told The Borneo Post.

It is not immediately known whether the ban on Shazni is related to his police case in 2016, when he was arrested and being probed under suspicion of sedition and conducting activities detrimental to the parliamentary democracy.

Shazni is alleged to have called, via statements on social media, for the government to be toppled via ‘massive riots’.

However, he denied having issued such statements.

It is said that Shazni’s trip to Sarawak was on official party’s business, but was barred entry upon arriving at Sibu Airport yesterday morning.

It is reported that he then boarded a return flight to Kuala Lumpur.

“As far as I know, this block is a disgusting inheritance from the Barisan Nasional (BN)-era, which abused its power to stop individuals from entering Sarawak – clearly for political reasons.

“If the Sarawak government, which had apparently left BN, maintained the same policies and political stances (of BN), it would be better for them to rejoin BN,” Shazni was quoted as having said in a statement.

He also stressed that a new Malaysia would demand new political practices, and that hypocrisy should be rejected.

For the record, Sarawak holds autonomous rights when it comes to immigration.
