Man held for possessing imitation firearms
KOTA KINABALU: A 20-yearold man has been arrested for possession of three imitation firearms.
City Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji said the arrest was made on August 25 after the suspect pulled out one of the firearms in a public area.
The other two firearms were later recovered from his vehicle and house respectively.
Speaking to reporters here yesterday, Habibi said the suspect was arrested in an entertainment outlet about 4am on August 25 after a report was made against him allegedly showing the firearm.
“The suspect who was drunk had gotten into a disagreement with a male tourist in the entertainment outlet. As a result of the altercation, he pulled out a pistol which is believed to be an imitation causing fear among the patrons there.
“The police were called and the man acted violently resulting in a tussle between the responding personnel and the suspect before they managed to subdue and detain him.
A subsequent check in his vehicle and house led to the discovery of the other two imitation firearms,” Habibi said.
According to him, the suspect who also tested positive for marijuana is being investigated under Section 36 (1) of the Firearms Act 1960 and Section 15 (1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
Remand for the suspect ended yesterday but was extended pending further investigations, he added.
