KOTA KINABALU: The Minister of Infrastructure Development through the Sabah Water Department has undertaken immediate measures to overcome water supply issues amidst the current hot weather.

Its minister, Datuk Peter Anthony, said the Malaysia Meteorological Department expected the heat to persist till December this year.

“The hot weather will affect rivers in the state and cause water shortage in treatment plants,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Hence, he called on the people to make early preparations and save up on water supply.

Peter said areas that would be hit hardest were Banggi, Pitas, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu and Menumbok.

“Any districts or areas that have been affected by critical water supply problem should inform the Sabah Water Department at its 24hour hotline 088-326888.

“This is an immediate action we are taking to overcome the issue.

"Other measures include distribution of water via water tankers in the shortest time possible,” he said.

To another question, Peter said the water level at all dams including Babagon Dam, had dropped due to the hot weather.

“The Meteorological Department has issued an early warning.

“The people should start saving water.”
