55 confirmed, more coming for Sibu International BASE Jump
SIBU: Fifty-five jumpers from over 20 countries have confirmed their participation in the Sibu International BASE Jump from the Wisma Sanyan here from Sept 20-23.
The annual event is organised by Sibu Resident’s Office in collaboration with Malaysia BASE Jump Association.
Deputy Resident Wong Hee Sieng said the organisers expected 70 to 80 jumpers to participate in the event this year.
He told reporters this at Star Mega Mall here on Sunday afternoon where a flash mob dance was held in conjunction with the event.
Some 30 staffs from various government departments took part in the flash mob dance held to promote the BASE jump.
“To mark the 10th anniversary of BASE jump here, a carnival will be held at Sibu Town Square Phase 2 from Sept 12 to 23.
“We want to make this event big, to attract more crowds and generate economic activities for Sibu,” Wong said.
In the programme are a trade fair, `Walk a Mile’, night cycling by Swan Cycling Club and people’s games.
Wong said the BASE jumpers will also be invited to take part in the various traditional games.
“Kite-flying, skateboarding show and competition, strongman competition, colouring contest will also be held,” he said, adding that a rabies awareness programme will also be slotted in.
