JAKARTA: Malaysia’s chef-demission (CDM) to the JakartaPal­embang Asian Games Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi is optimistic that the national contingent will achieve their seven-gold target.

Abdul Azim said that although some of the squads failed to deliver, he was confident that Malaysia will prevail over Japan in the men’s hockey final at the Gelora Bung Karno Hockey Field tonight.

Malaysia’s haul currently stands at six gold with two from bowling (women’s trios and men’s masters) and one each from cycling (men’s individual sprint), sepak takraw (men’s regu), squash (women’s individual) and sailing (Laser Open 4.7).

“We must fight till the end. It is not over till its over,” he told the Malaysian media after witnessing the national sailing squad in action at the Indonesian National Sailing Centre here yesterday. Abdul Azim was full of praise for the squad who turned in five medals overall.

Besides the gold, the national sailors won a silver (Laser Standard) and three bronze (Laser Radial, Women’s 470 and mixed RS One) .

Not only that, two of the sailors, Khairulniz­am Mohd Afendy (Laser Standard) and Nur Shazrin Mohamad Latif (Women’s Laser Radial), have qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
