Seri Setia candidates welcome 21-day campaign period challenge
SHAH ALAM: The 21-day campaign period for the Seri Setia state by-election is a new challenge that is positively welcomed by the two candidates contesting in the by-election.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Halimey Abu Bakar said the unprecedented long campaigning period gave him an ample time to visit all zones in stages, as well as to concentrate on some grey areas in the constituency.
“I’m taking up this challenge by designing a systematic plan so that I will be able to visit every zone in this area (Seri Setia).
“For example, I will visit area A during the first week, area B in the second week and go all out during the final week,” he told Bernama here.
Polling is on Sept 8 in the by-election in which Halimey, a former member of the Petaling Jaya City Council, is involved in a straight fight with former Selangor state executive councillor Dr Halimah Ali of PAS.
The by-election is being held following the death of the assemblyman, Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin of PH, on Aug 2.
For Dr Halimah, the three-week campaign period would allow her and the party to carry out more programmes and enable them to meet with all the voters.
“This is the first time that the campaign period for a byelection is held for more than two weeks, usually it is less than two weeks, but this is not an issue for me as I am used to it,” said Dr Halimah, who is former Selat Klang assemblyman (from 2008 to 2018).
