Police await actor’s statement over alleged kidnapping attempt

-

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian actor Hairul Azreen has yet to come forward to have his statement on the alleged kidnap attempt recorded, said Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) commander Datuk Hazani Ghazali.

“We have sent them a letter requesting for an explanation and also to record their statement with regard to the case and also to find out the source of information about the alleged kidnap attempt,” said Hazani when asked for an update on the case.

Hazani who was met at the state police contingent headquarters in Kepayan yesterday after witnessing the handover of duties by outgoing Sabah commissioner of police Datuk Ramli Din, said they needed to record Hairul’s statement in order to complete their investigation.

He also said the production company of the film Hairul was shooting for had denied issuing any statement with regard to the alleged kidnap attempt.

“We need to complete the investigation in order to stop similar incidents from happening,” he said, adding that Hairul could not deny making the allegation as he had said it during a press conference that was covered by the print and electronic media.

“Please don’t seek cheap publicity because this is a security issue and everyone, not only ESSCom and the security forces have their respective role to play in keeping the our security,” he said.

Last week, Hairul when interviewed by a national newspaper, said he and another actor almost became the targets of kidnappers while filming the ‘PASKAL’ in Semporna, several months ago.
