No-contest proposal for Upko top post

RANAU: Upko Ranau division chief Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin has called for the post of Upko president to be uncontested, and suggested that Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau should be allowed to win uncontested.

Ewon made the call in his speech at the triennial general meeting of the Ranau Upko division yesterday.

“YB DSP Madius Tangau should be allowed to helm the party,” he said, adding that Tangau has proven himself to be capable of the leading the party up to this time.

“Upko is a party for the Kadazandusun Murut community. There would be no Upko if there are no KDMs,” he said, adding that it is therefore very important for the people to be united as strength lies in the solid unity of the people.

“We must therefore show our unity by allowing the post of the president to be uncontested in the coming national Upko triennial general meeting,” he said, stressing that the new generations of Kadazandusun Murut (KDM) community are now beginning to understand the vision of this party as shown by the large number of new members who join us today, mostly from the Komulakan movement.

Madius, who officiated at the Ranau Upko triennial general meeting, praised Ranau Upko divisional leaders for their resilience and steadfastness in strengthening the division, after he was handed some 2,620 application forms from new members, comprising mainly the young generation, who submitted their membership application forms despite some negative comments on the status of Upko Ranau that cropped up recently.

This shows that despite what certain quarters deemed as a setback, Upko Ranau has been gaining strength from day to day, he added.

Madius, who is also Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Trade and Industry, called on every member of the KDM community to rally behind him and unite under the slogan “Misompuru Tokou Sogigisom” (Let’s Unite Forever).
