2,620 new members show Upko growing stronger – Madius
RANAU: Upko acting president Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau said the entry of some 2,620 new members into the party through its Ranau division proved that the party is gaining strength and continue to be relevant among the Ranau community despite negative rumours of that have been viral in recent days.
Madius, who is Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Trade and Industry made this statement when officiating at the Ranau Upko Divisional Triennial General Meeting held at the Ranau Community Hall yesterday.
The new members are mainly from the State constituencies of Kundasang, Keranaan and Paginatan comprising mainly the younger generation (Komulakan).
“Let us not become the laughing stock but instead, we must be strongly united. Upko members must stop any form of factionalism within its ranks, avoid internal problems that would eventually break us apart as in the end it is us, our community that will tend to be the loser.
“Our defeat in GE4 in the three parliamentary constituencies is our own doing as we failed to recognize and address the divisive elements within us which we could have resolved within ourselves in a family atmosphere.
“Therefore, Upko must continue to consolidate and unite under the slogan ‘Misompuru Tokou Sogigisom’ in order for us to be able to face any challenges and obstacles caused by people who wants to see Upko disintegrate and destroyed” Madius said.
Among those who were present were Paginatan assemblyman Datuk Abidin Madingkir and other senior party leaders from among the Supreme Council members.
