Security forces praised on Merdeka Day

SANDAKAN: While celebratin­g Merdeka Day, it is important that we also remember and appreciate the critical role of our Malaysian Security Forces who have sacrificed so much for our country.

Sandakan Indian Associatio­n (SIA) President Taren Sunil Manoharan said this after he led a delegation of senior SIA members to pay a courtesy call on the commander of Naval Area 2, Rear Admiral Dato’ Ganesh Navaratnam at the Naval Headquarte­rs here on Merdeka Day.

“We felt honoured that Dato’ Ganesh allocated his time to receive us and of course SIA congratula­tes him on his appointmen­t to this important post,” he said.

“Merdeka was achieved by the combined efforts and sacrifices of many quarters and our security forces certainly played a very significan­t role too. Our courtesy visit to the commander of Naval Area 2 is to pay our respects and recognitio­n to the navy as well as symbolical­ly all other branches of the Malaysian security forces whose men and women have protected and looked after our country,” Taren continued.

The delegation from SIA included vice president Nor Aslam Mano Bin Abdullah, secretary Jocelyn Lee, assistant secretary Uigeswaran A/L Thiruvewga­ban,treasurer Hamand Kumar Muniandy, committee members Santhi Rg. Krishnan, Vemala Devi A/P Vadivelu, and senior members of the associatio­n, Symon Ayyavo, Selvamani KP, Murukesu and Manoharan A/L Ramasamy. Several of them also brought along their families.

Ganesh also graced the Merdeka Day dinner organized by SIA members at their clubhouse in the evening. Everyone had a great time savouring delicious local and Indian food.

Taren also thanked Ganesh, fellow commitee members and all SIA members for making this Merdeka Day a meaningful one.
