IPay88 plans expansion to Sri Lanka, Laos, Mauritius

KUALA LUMPUR: iPay88, a leading Southeast Asia payment gateway, plans to expand its footprint to Sri Lanka, Laos and Mauritius by the end of next year, said Co-Founder and Executive Director Chan Kok Long.

He said the home grown company has targeted the three countries due to their location and population.

“Mauritius is the gateway to African countries and we are currently engaged in discussions about Laos as well as Nepal.

“These countries are relatively newcomers to e-commerce and they are embracing digitalisation, especially the local businesses. This is a good sign, as the future will be about online business, technology and autonomous payment,” he told Bernama recently.

iPay88 provides top online payment collection solutions in ASEAN, with footprints in eight countries, including Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia. The company has more than 30,000 merchants currently registered under its umbrella, recording RM6.6 billion worth of sales transactions last year.

Meanwhile, Chan said despite aggressive plans to explore other countries, the technology (tech) company faced a talent shortage, especially from the technical aspect.

“This is a huge challenge, not only for us, but also for many tech companies. We are constantly on the lookout for talents and we plan to attract them by offering certain incentives,” he said.

Currently, iPay88 is collaborating with Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak to find people with the needed skillsets.

“We are looking forward to working with more universities in the future such as Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Tun Abdul Razak,” he added.
