BEIJING: Several reports in China have claimed that Fan Bingbing, who has been accused of tax evasion, has been arrested in Wuxi.

Businessman Huang Yiqing has also claimed on Weibo that Fan has been detained. Previously, Beijing had barred her from leaving the country.

Huang, the former husband of actress Huang Yi, had written: “Some breaking news – I just spoke to a friend whose wife works at the Wuxi prosecutor’s office, who has confirmed that Fan Bingbing has indeed been

arrested.”

Fan’s production studio is based in Wuxi. Meanwhile, superstar Jackie Chan has refuted allegations that he had advised Fan to seek refuge in the United States. According to Hong Kong-based Apple Daily, Fan had appeared at a Los Angeles immigration office on Aug 31 to enter the United States.

The source is reportedly a Twitter user, who believes that Fan had taken Jackie’s advice to seek refuge in the United States to ride out what is the biggest scandal in her two decades in showbiz.

However, news site ETtoday has reported that Jackie’s alleged involvement is “nonsense”.

Fan, 36, had stopped updating her online blogs for over two months after veteran TV host Cui Yongyuan uploaded documentary evidence which allegedly showed that Fan had been dodging taxes through “yin and yang” contracts.

Fan reportedly had two contracts on Cell Phone 2, a Feng Xiaogang film, with one quoting a lower salary apparently meant for taxation purposes.
