RM200,00 for BN assemblymen in S’gor

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will reallocate RM200,000 to each Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblyman in the state to carry out projects for the people’s well-being.

Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the allocation was the policy of the state government and it was prepared to give it even though the BN assemblymen used to reject the allocation.

“Before this, we were the first state to give among the highest allocation of RM200,000 (a year). I hope they will use it accordingly,” he told reporters at the lobby of the state legislative assembly here yesterday.

For the past four years, all BN assemblymen have declined the allocation claiming the quantum did not reflect fair play.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said the state government would review water tariff and free water programme so as not to burden the state government and consumers.

However, Amirudin said for the time being, the water tariff would not be raised and the free water programme would be continued.

“The goal of the water restructuring in Selangor is to take over the water treatment and supply operations from the existing concessionaire.

“Hence, when the time is right, we have to review (the tariff and free water programme) so that it will not burden the state and the people,” he said when replying to a question from Lau Weng San (DAPBanting).

Earlier, Sungai Air Tawar assemblyman Rizam Ismail was appointed the new opposition leader for the state effective yesterday.
