Site for Putatan Hospital identified
PUTATAN: A site has been identified to build the proposed Putatan Hospital in view of the overcrowding at Putatan Health Clinic.
Assistant Minister of Law and Native Affairs Hj Uda bin Sulai said the government was aware of the need for a well-equipped hospital in Putatan.
He said the existing Putatan Health Clinic was not only visited by local patients, but also people from Kinarut, Papar and other districts.
“There is limited space for expansion at the health clinic.
“We need a bigger space to overcome the problems (at the existing clinic), including the lack of parking,” the Petagas assemblyman said when asked by the media after officiating at the district-level National Day celebration at Dewan Sri Putatan here yesterday.
Uda said a suitable site had been identified for the proposed Putatan Hospital and he hoped that the new building could be constructed as soon as possible.
“It will, however, depend on government’s allocation,” he said.
On the other hand, Putatan District Officer Ag Abd Ghani informed that a fire station was currently under construction near Servay Hypermarket in the district.
He said the project was expected to be completed in two years’ time.
Earlier, Abd Ghani also expressed his wish for the Putatan District Council to be elevated to Municipal Council earliest by 2025.
He said Putatan, formerly a sub-district under Penampang, was upgraded to a full district in 2007.
Also present was Putatan member of parliament Awang Husaini bin Datuk Sahari.
