Putatan has great tourism potential – assistant minister
PUTATAN: Putatan, located just a stone’s throw away from Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), has a great potential for tourism, said Assistant Minister of Law and Native Affairs Hj Uda bin Sulai.
Uda, who is also Petagas assemblyman, said Putatan was the smallest district in Sabah with an area of less than 5,000 hectares.
“We do not have large areas for agricultural and industrial developments in Putatan, but we can explore the tourism potential here.
“We already have the infrastructure and hotels in the district. They just need to be improved.”
Uda said Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) had also been engaged to advise the government on cleaning up the rivers in Putatan in order to attract tourists.
He said this to the media after gracing the district-level National Day celebration at Dewan Sri Putatan here yesterday.
On a related note, Uda urged residents in the district to keep Putatan safe and clean so as not to leave a bad impression on tourists.
“I urge the people, especially villagers, to maintain the cleanliness as visitors wish to see clean villages.
“This is our aspiration to bring progress to Putatan.”
Also present were Putatan Member of Parliament Awang Husaini bin Datuk Sahari and Putatan District Officer Ag Abd Ghani bin Hj Pg Yusoff.
