KOTA KINABALU: Possessing 5.02 grams of syabu landed a 32-year-old man in jail for 22 months.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus imposed the custodial sentence on Nordin Rahman after he pleaded guilty to possessing the drugs by the roadside in Kampung Sembulan Lama here at 11am on November 2, 2017.

The offence was framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or a jail term of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.

Meanwhile, a 31-year-old man was jailed for 10 months by the same court for having 0.15 gram of syabu.

Ibrahim Kyim pleaded guilty before the magistrate for having the drugs in front of a junction in Jalan Kurisi, Sadong Jaya, here at 9.10am on November 23, 2017.

Nordin and Ibrahim, who were not represented, were also ordered to serve their jail sentences from the date of their arrests and referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentences.

In a separate case, a 36-yearold housewife was charged with possession of syabu and consuming the drug.

However, no plea was taken from Nelda Suiking who appeared before the magistrate, pending her chemistry report.

Nelda was accused of possessing 5.42 grams of syabu at a car park in the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), here at 10.30am on August 29.

She was also alleged to have consumed syabu on the same day at 11.30am after her urine tested positive for drugs at the police station here.

The court fixed October 16 this year for mention and Nelda was released on RM4,500 bail in two local sureties.

Inspector Albert Basiri prosecuted while Nelda was represented by counsel Amli Nohin.
