TUARAN: Repsol Oil & Gas Malaysia Limited continued its signature safety awareness campaign, named “Let's Be Safe”, when another series was held for 500 primary schoolchildren from 10 schools in Tuaran District recently.

With this latest campaign, this community investment programme by Repsol has reached out to over 9,000 primary schoolchildren from various districts in Sabah and Labuan since its inception in 2013.

Assistant Education and Innovation Minister Jenifer Lasimbang who spoke at the closing ceremony, commended Repsol for initiating and continuing the programme which she viewed as relevant and timely for these young schoolchildren.

“It is an initiative which gives an early awareness to all young schoolchildren on the importance of embracing the importance of personal safety at all times in order to avoid or minimize the risks of accidents or untoward circumstances,” she remarked.

She stressed that personal safety in fact could no longer be compromised in view of the many issues and situations which could endanger our young children.

Jenifer was impressed with the skills from young participants in the public speaking contest which formed part of the campaign content this time around. Their topic was “Independence & Safety.”

Repsol senior technical services manager Pablo Ortola Martinez stated that while they were focused on their business activities, Repsol was equally passionate about helping the communities in their area of operations.

“With safety values encompassing all that we do, sharing personal safety messages among schoolchildren naturally became as one of the four focus in our community investment programmes,” he reiterated.

Repsol produced a special interactive video to highlight key safety messages as part of the hands-on learning experience by the participants. They also listened to talks from the Police and Fire and Rescue Services Department as well as trying their hands using fire extinguishers at the fire-fighting demonstration by firemen.

Tuaran District Education Officer Tah Nia bt Hj Jeman thanked Repsol for bringing the safety campaign to the schools in Tuaran District.

She was glad to note the close collaboration between Repsol, Tuaran District Education Office, the police and the Fire and Rescue Service Department which had ensured the success of the campaign.

She also called on the participants to share the safety messages with their parents, siblings and friends at school who did not have the opportunity to participate.

The winners of the Public Speaking Contest for English category were Kifflen Kebby Kili (SK Lok Yuk Telipok), Mercy Ann Llames (SK Pekan Telipok), Mohd Hanif (SK Gayang).
