Teachers of an all-girls school where one of its students was reported to be injured, clarified that she was not abused but was involved in a fight with her seniors.
SANDAKAN: Teachers of an all-girls school where one of its students was reported to have been injured, clarified that she was not abused but was involved in a fight with her senior.
The Borneo Post reported on August 19 that a 14-yearold schoolgirl was hospitalised after she was physically harmed by four other female students aged 15 and 16 at the school hall here.
She went to the hospital to receive medical treatment in the evening of the same day and lodged a police report on the incident.
The news report that was published was written based on the police report.
Teachers of the school however said the report was wrong as the student was not involved in an abuse case, but a fight.
“It was a one-to-one fight with another student.
They were both not injured. Teachers also did not send the students to the hospital because according to Standard Operating Procedures, we cannot send students out of the school without the permission of the parents.
“We tried contacting the student’s mother but she could not be reached. Seeing that the student was physically fit and was not injured, the teachers did not send the student to the hospital.
“To our surprise, the student went to the hospital in the evening and lodged a police report,” she said.
She said the teachers had taken immediate action by investigating the matter right after the fighting incident had happened and found that it was a fight between two students.
“After the student had lodged a police report, the police came to the school and we provided relevant information to the police to assist in their investigation,” the teacher said.
She added that the two students involved in the fight were given stern warning from the school.
