Arrests of civil servant, abettors lead to recovery of stolen goods
LIMBANG: Police arrested a civil servant, his brother, and their eight accomplices on Thursday, leading to the biggest recovery of stolen goods from several housebreaking and theft cases since March in the district.
Limbang District police chief Supt Mohd Bukhori Saffai said the 31-year-old civil servant, his brother, 32, and eight other individuals aged 23 to 41 were detained at separate locations between 3.10pm and 10.35pm.
He said police recovered the items, believed to be stolen, hidden in a house at Kampung Limpaku Pinang.
“The police believe that the stolen items were traded for drugs before they were hidden in the house.
“This is the success of our personnel in solving several housebreaking and theft cases in the district following three to four months of intelligence gathering and public information,” he told a press conference yesterday.
Mohd Bukhori said the stolen items included metal equipment, boats, and outboard engines worth more than RM60,000.
He added all the suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine use.
Some of them also have past records of theft and drug-related offences, he said.
All 10 suspects are being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code and Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Mohd Bukhori also called on victims of theft to go to the Limbang District police headquarters to identify their goods.
