Lahad Datu council welcomes call to maintain cleanliness
LAHAD DATU: The District Council (PBT) here welcomes the call to maintain cleanliness to enhance the image of the country.
District Officer Iman Ali described the recommendations made by Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi as timely and in line with the efforts undertaken by PBT.
Iman said hygiene was an important aspect as it was the basis of the beauty and well-being of society and the nation.
He said for that purpose, PBT had also implemented several efforts such as initiating ‘gotong royong’ (community effort) in every village.
“We will also enforce the law, especially those involving littering, which is in line with our ‘Anti Kutu Sampah’ campaign.
“Not only that, we will also undertake efforts to increase people’s awareness on the importance of maintaining cleanliness,” he said.
Iman also added that the community would fully support the efforts undertaken by PBT and the government as all government plans were for the well-being of the people.
Meanwhile, Lahad Datu Youth and Sport officer Irwan Iskandar said his party would provide full cooperation in this effort, especially in community activities.
Irwan said efforts to maintain cleanliness would not only increase the image of the country but would also ensure the health and well-being of the community.
For this purpose, he added, 52 youth associations in Lahad Datu and Tungku with about 2, 000 members, were willing to get involved.
Meanwhile, an officer from Lahad Datu Perpaduan (Department of National Unity and Integration) Jammaluddin Abdul Rahman said he was committed to mobilize members of Komuniti Rukun Tetangga (KRT) in efforts to clean and beautify the district.
He said about 1,500 Perpaduan members would be ready to get involved regularly in the cleaning activities to be held in every village in the district.
“It is hoped that more agencies, departments and nongovernmental organisations will get involved in this mission,” he added.
Recently, Mohamaddin had called upon all parties to maintain cleanliness to attract more tourists to this country.
The call was also in line with the preparation of ‘Tahun Melawat Malaysia’ campaign as well as efforts to improve the health and well-being of the community.
