263 products, technologies commercialized through MCY
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 263 products and technologies have been successfully commercialized through the Malaysia Commercialization Year (MCY) initiative, said the Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Yeo Bee Yin.
She said these commercialized products amounted to RM225.4 million in value as of December 31 last year.
Yeo said her ministry had undertaken various initiatives to boost the commercialization of research and development (R&D) products such as engagement session with stakeholders, pitching, business matching and capacity building under MCY.
“MCY serves as a platform for technology transfer and commercialization between agencies, universities and private sector to boost the commercialization of R&D products in the country.”
She said that in response to Senator Datuk Yong Wui Chung’s question on the programmes undertaken by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (Mestecc) to produce high-technology products that could compete at the global level during the Dewan Negara sitting here recently.
Yeo said her ministry though the Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM) also implemented High Impact Project 6 (HIP6), a game-changing programme spearheaded by SME Corporation Sdn Bhd (SME Corp) that focused on innovation inclusiveness for the Bottom 40 (B40) income group.
“From January 2015 to July 2018, a total of 26 innovations have been commercialized and 14 intellectual properties have been filed.”
She added that YIM also focused on grassroot innovation through programmes such as Mainstreaming Grassroots Innovations (MaGRIs), which was aimed to accelerating the development and promotion of potential grassroot innovation in Malaysia with the cooperation between the government, industry, grassroot communities and youth.
She said the MaGRIs programme had identified 737 innovative products between 2016 and 2018.
