UPKO Libaran, council president discuss on developing Sandakan to greater heights
SANDAKAN: UPKO Libaran division chief Dr Peter Jr Naintin met with the new Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) president, Datuk Peter Hii Chang Lik during a courtesy visit on Thursday.
Peter said that the meeting with the SMC president was encouraging and positive.
“We have shared a few focal views on developing Sandakan to another greater heights. As the newly elected SMC President, Datuk Peter Hii shared similar views on improving Sandakan to become a great city that will attract new business and investors who would be able to create more job opportunities for the people.
“Datuk Peter Hii added that we must become the best and do the best for Sandakan. He accepted UPKO Libaran’s views and always practised an open door policy to any constructive ideas that would be able to develop and improve Sandakan to become great again.
“He also promised to bring some of the proposals by UPKO Libaran to the council for further consideration and endorsement,” he said.
Among other topics that were discussed during the meeting were UPKO’s role in promoting the cultural programmes in Sandakan such as Sukan Rakyat and Hari Orang Asal Sedunia in collaboration with the Sabah Cultural Board.
Peter said that UPKO would be organising the State Kaamatan Festival next year as recommended by Chief Minsiter Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Shafie Apdal.
“UPKO Libaran is ready to co-organise Kaamatan Festival with SMC for Sandakan and Libaran.”
He also shared with Peter Hii on other topics including development, education and industrial sector of Sandakan.
Meanwhile, Peter told The Borneo Post that it was UPKO Libaran’s duty and responsibility to tell the rakyat that they were forming the new government and they were well aware of the inspiration of the rakyat.
“We are here to state our willingness to facilitate the current government on the implementation of government policy for the well-being of the rakyat. The most important thing is we need to be as one effective government,” he said.
Peter explained that UPKO has three divisions in Sandakan, namely Libaran, Sandakan and Batu Sapi.
He said that earlier this year, UPKO Libaran was officially established and officiated by UPKO acting president cum Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau.
