Montfort carnival to raise RM230,000

-

KOTA KlNABALU: The Montfort Youth Training Centre Open House & Carnival returns for its 13th instalment this year on October 7, from 8am to 2.30pm.

This year, the carnival aims to raise RM230,000 which will go towards helping underprivileged youths under the Montfort programme, including the upkeep and sustenance of 220 youths under the residential care programme comprising 80 schoolgoing children at San Damiano Boys’ Hostel, Kiulu and St Mary’s Youth Hostel, Sandakan.

As in previous years, WSG Development Sdn Bhd and Mega Sunwise Sdn Bhd managing director and philanthropist Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen will lend her support to the Montfort carnival through cash donations and large quantities of KK Cool drinking water, in addition to assorted soft drinks.

In a press conference yesterday, Susan said her unwavering support towards Montfort is based on her belief that the centre is doing its part to help develop youths and prepare them for the workplace.

She presented her donations to organising chairperson Datuk Margaret Fung, alongside fellow Board of Governors of Montfort member Willie Wong.

Margaret expressed her gratitude to Susan for her continued support, which she said was very encouraging to the Brothers, management and staff, especially during this challenging time.

“More than 50 stalls will be set up offering a wide range of food, drinks, and home-style cooking, prepared personally by friends and staff of Montfort. Montfort Carpentry and Welding departments will also be showcasing their products made by the trainees.

“There will be six games stalls to create a fun atmosphere for the children and visitors, which also include fishing for adults and young children,” said Margaret.

Currently, the centre has 136 youths between 16 and 20 years old undergoing a two-year technical skill course in motor mechanics, welding, furniture making, and refrigeration and air-conditioning mechanics.
